Circostrada Network
68, rue de la Folie Méricourt
75011 Paris – France

Circostrada Network organises a second work seminar on the structuring of circus arts in Europe.
In addition to a reviewing the situation, the two days of seminar aims to formulate a series of
recommendations, addressed to regional, national and community institutions, for a better
recognition of specificities of contemporary circus creation.
Professionals from the performing arts domain are invited to think about a consolidation of the
sector, especially thanks to a call for contributions which will be launched Europe-wide from
December 2011, in order to collect their observations and propositions.
In this dynamic and in order to take into consideration the very diverse European realities, we will
propose to artists and companies, to operators in street arts and more generally from the
performing arts sector to send their contributions in order to:

Share experiences and difficulties
Make known examples of good practice
Formulate concrete propositions in order to improve the situation in the sector
Reflect on a way of positioning contemporary circus arts in the face of transversal issues

In order to facilitate the approach and the treatment of issues linked to our sector, the members of
Circostrada Network propose to articulate the seminar around 10 thematic working sessions:

Aesthetics of contemporary circus: pluridisciplinarity or death of the genre?
Artistic residency programmes: time and space for what?
Our neighbours from other continents: what collaborations?
Production is dead, long live international co-production?
What partnerships with enterprises?
Social circus: what impacts on citizens?
Audience development: is my public popular?
Criticise circus: what relationship with medias?
Career pathways: from employability to conversion
Green circus: responding to climate change

Fresh Circus #2 will welcome 400 professionals from the circus worldwide, and the broad
performing arts sector.
